This course is designed for mechanical engineers with little or no background in optics. Attendees will learn how to use LensMechanix to assess the impact of mechanical designs on the optical performance, and troubleshoot and correct issues caused by the mechanical design. The course introduces the basic principles of optics and includes LensMechanix demos, lab exercises, use of lens sample files, and real-world examples, and tips and resources to use on the job. Schedule The class meets four hours each day for three consecutive days.
On the final day, you will work on a lab of your choice to give you the opportunity to work at your own pace and ask questions. The last day of the course is optional but highly recommended. Designed for engineers with little to no background in optics, this course teaches foundational concepts in optics and prepares attendees for the Optical System Design Using OpticStudio course.
Day 2: How light is traced in OpticStudio, dispersion and defining materials, and the optical design process. Prerequisites None. This course is ideal for mechanical or electrical engineers, or those from other engineering disciplines, who need to understand basic concepts of optics and how to apply them within OpticStudio.
Assumes a background in optics or completion of Fundamentals of Optics course. No prior knowledge of OpticStudio is required. This course provides a solid introduction to the OpticStudio sequential design environment.Vpt
Attendees will acquire the skills to design, optimize, and tolerance imaging systems through hands-on exercises. Familiarity with illumination or imaging systems encouraged. No prior knowledge of OpticStudio required. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the OpticStudio non-sequential design environment, and is intended for those working on illumination systems or evaluating stray light in imaging systems.
Attendees will acquire the skills to design, optimize, and tolerance systems through hands-on exercises. Day 4: Stray light analysis, scattering, and switching between sequential and non-sequential mode. Model, analyze, optimize, and tolerance illumination, imaging, and collimation systems in non-sequential mode.
Build mixed sequential and non-sequential systems, like prisms, fibers, or other systems that generate total internal reflection TIR.If your organization has multiple individuals to train, customized on-site training is an economical option at a flat fee per day.
Examples of topics include how to: Use freeform and aspheric surfaces Perform advanced tolerancing techniques Use physical optics propagation, Gaussian beams, and geometric rays to simulate lasers and optical fibers, and explain when to use each tool Incorporate OpticsBuilder as part of your optical product design workflow Use OpticsViewer to improve communication with non-optical engineers. Schedule private training so your team can design optical products faster.

Teachers are now managing virtual classrooms and a whole new way of remote learning for over 1. In-person classes have been moved to remote teaching and learning for the balance of the school year. With many of the students and professors returning home, having the right software and applications on their personal computer is the key to remote teaching and learning.
Zemax has a long history of providing free software and online technical resources to prepare students and educators for a successful career in optics. In AugustZemax introduced a new Global Academic Program which provides free individual licenses of Zemax OpticStudio to students and teachers who are enrolled in an optics related course.
Professor Julie Bentley who teaches optics at the University of Rochester in upstate New York, now delivers live lectures via Zoom vs the classroom. In China where the virus has crippled the country since December, Dr. They can follow me step-by-step at home.
I am extremely indebted to Zemax for making this possible. Thanks to all of you at Zemax, our students will be very well trained in optical design, even during the pandemic. For more information on how your school or university can be a member of the Zemax Global Academic Program: Learn More.

With its comprehensive set of analysis and simulation tools, OpticStudio stands alone in its feature set.Navigating the ZOS-API Syntax Help document - Part 1
With more than field points you can set up even the most complex freeform and non-rotationally symmetric systems. Design high-confidence virtual prototypes with the only optical design software that can model everything from imaging optics to illumination, including the effects of stray light.
Analyze your system to evaluate performance OpticStudio includes a suite of tools to analyze the performance of your system. In addition to the classic analysis functions, OpticStudio also offers Full-field Aberration analysis to improve freeform designs; contrast analysis for MTF optimization; and Image Simulation to produce photorealistic images of object scenes.
Optimize your system to meet manufacturing specifications State-of-the-art optimization tools automatically improve the performance of designs based on user-defined constraints and design goals.
This saves time by eliminating design iterations. Optimize for MTF up to 10x faster with Contrast Optimization - which removes multiple design and test steps inherent in older processes. Tolerance your system to ensure manufacturability Advanced tools incorporate manufacturing and assembly limits into design constraints to ensure manufacturability and production efficiency.
In addition to sensitivity studies, Monte Carlo tolerance analysis can simulate the as-built performance. Zemax Programming Language ZPL enables you to write your own macros to automate repetitive processes. Custom DLLs allow creation of any surfaces, objects, sources, and scatter functions.
